The Celtic penalty taker is nowhere near Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ level of class – Hotline

Scotland are going through the five stages of grief when it comes to the Euro’s exit but it seems they’ve got them out of order.

It’s meant to be denial, anger, bargaining, depression and then acceptance.

The Tartan Army seems to be working through the stages backwards and we’ve now hit rage.

Steve Clarke and his squad did us proud in getting to the tournament but it’s now time for the gaffer and players to take their dunts.

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Watching Scottland is like peeling onions – both ends in tears.”

Ronnie Swan, Lochee, said: “If Shankland and Griffiths played the three games we would now be sitting in the last 16. It’s a disgrace. Also spare me this Super John McGinn claptrap.

“The guy’s never of his backside. I could have scored that sitter he missed at the back post against Croatia.

“We’re back to watching Corrie and Eastenders.”

Ann McCarron emailed: “When I first saw the squad announced I knew we were in trouble. When Clarke picks five centre backs and only two defensive midfielders, we were always going to have problems in that area.

“As for putting on McKenna against Croatia, milk could turn faster.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “We were well beaten by a better team but our manager seemed clueless to change things which were clearly not working.

“Our midfield was getting over over run and Stephen O’Donnell was getting targeted constantly down the right, while Dykes was a waste of a jersey.

“The manager just sat there and changed nothing and when he did the subs were baffling.”

Jim Robertson emailed: “Why did we appoint Clarke as manager when his record at Kilmarnock was just okay? Looking at his achievements there is hardly a ringing endorsement to be considered as the Scotland manager.

“Was there no better candidate with international and/or European experience who could have been considered? Some of his selection were baffling.”

John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Finishing bottom of the group had nothing whatsoever to do with bad luck. It was down to poor finishing and defensive errors. Young Billy Gilmour has been hailed as some great messiah. That alone underlines our delusion.”

John Allardyce, Edinburgh, said: “I can’t believe all the over hype about Scotland’s. Any realistic football fan would know they had no chance. They got one point out of possible nine.

“Scots are on a par with Faroe Islands and Luxembourg.”

Back in the club game, there’s more talk about Alfredo Morelos, with Porto hovering for the Rangers ace while Billy Gilmour an Ibrox loan target.

Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “I’m shocked and puzzled how people can value 23 European goals and record breaking Morelos with over two years left on his contract only worth £10million yet the French penalty taker across the city who only scores in Scottish football is allegedly worth £15m, despite being a free agent in a matter of months.

“Just imagine Eduard had Morelos’s European pedigree, we could have been looking at the first £100m player in Scottish football.”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “Does Gerrard want Billy Gilmour so he can get a player in the Scotland team? None of his other players are good enough.”

Finally Andy Murray is going for Olympic glory again but Alistair Main, Ormiston, said: “Murray’s team ought to tell him that he is no longer young or able enough to put up the super human effort that made him the winner in his magnificent singles quests.

“Go play doubles Andy, I am sure you would have plenty willing, quality partners and your career can continue for you, and us, to enjoy.”
