The Celtic injury scare which could hand Arsenal and Unai Emery a massive transfer blow

Arsenal remain in the hunt for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.

Amid Unai Emery's plan to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new season, links to the Scotland international have been strong but the north London outfit have seen a £15m bid rejected as the Hoops hold out for £25m.

Football.london understands that although the Gunners are reluctant to meet Celtic's valuation in full, there is a compromise figure that can be found in excess of £20m.

In the meantime Tierney will remain a Celtic player and Arsenal will hope to reach an agreement before the transfer window shuts next month.

However, he's currently out of action because of injury.

So much so that it caused him to miss Celtic's Champions League first qualifying round first-leg win over FK Sarajevo which resulted in a debut for Boli Bolingoli.

But the ex-Rapid Vienna defender suffered an ankle problem which caused him to limp off 12 minutes into the second half and Neil Lennon delivered an update following the game.

"Mikey felt a twinge in his quad so we're hoping it's not too serious," Lennon said, as per Football Scotland .

"James (Forrest) was just fatigue more than anything else, so we didn't want to take any chances. So hopefully we're not too stretched on that side of things."

Given that Bolingoli was viewed as Tierney's replacement, injury scare might just be bad news for Emery's hopes of luring the latter to the Emirates Stadium.

If the injury is more serious than first feared would the Hoops be even more reluctant to lose Tierney?

The Gunners head coach will hope that's not the case.

But Lennon did have an update on Tierney amid links to Arsenal.

"I have taken no notice of the headlines. I am well aware of where we are in terms of the situation," he said, as per the Daily Record.

"I spoke to Kieran in Austria and to be honest I haven’t really seen much of him because he came back early for rehab, so has not been on the training ground as yet.

"It can be an unsettling period for any player and that is understandable but until a club comes up with any sort of realistic valuation of the player we don’t have to do anything and we won’t.

"It’s as you were. Kieran is getting on with his rehabilitation and we are getting on with what we have to do here."
