The Celtic fixture headache after Europa League draw that will prove pivotal

Celtic face a fixture headache in September and October after the Europa League third round qualifying draw was made.

The Hoops will face Riga or Tre Fiori on September 24 and it's going to be a congested spell for the champions after the international break.

Reaching the play-off round will potentially add another game to their schedule, but it's their rearranged games against St Mirren and Aberdeen due to Boli Bolingoli's coronavirus breach that will be difficult to navigate.

When Celtic return from the break, they will take on Ross County before a midweek fixture against the Buddies.

Neil Lennon's side then host Livingston a few days later before travelling to either San Marino or Latvia for their Europa League tie midweek.

Celtic host Hibs the following weekend and if they dispatch Riga or Tre Fiori, their play-off tie would go ahead on October 1.

That would mean their Friday night Premiership clash on October 2 would likely be pushed back until later in the month, but it still leaves a jam-packed month for the Parkhead club.

Their other remaining game in hand against the Dons still needs to be rescheduled, but there is no room in September due to their busy schedule.

Celtic could still potentially play six games in less than three weeks, which could be a pivotal period for Lennon's men as they hope to make up ground on league leaders Rangers.

Throw in the added pressure to reach the group stage after they were knocked out of the Champions League and it's fair to say, it's a crucial stretch of the season.
