But the issue has caused divide in a country where our national sport and the betting firms are so heavily linked.
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinney, said: “Scottish football has double standards. They are promoting gambling. They take the sponsorship money but the money a player or manager goes in to a bookies there is outcry.
“If these firms pulled out their money, Scottish football would be in big trouble so it’s a major issue.
“Brian Rice should not be punished, he should be given help.”
Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh , said: “Am I the only one who has zero sympathy for well paid footballers, whom, after a couple of training sessions per day, hang about turf accountants, or sit playing online poker?
“I associate that behaviour with souls who are educationally challenged, and have zero interests. They obviously have more money then sense.”
