The Celtic EPL transfer double dream that Neil Lennon must turn into a reality - Hotline

Brian Rice made the brave decision to come out and admit his gambling problems as he awaits punishment from the SFA  for punting.

But the issue has caused divide in a country where our national sport and the betting firms are so heavily linked.

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinney, said: “Scottish football has double standards. They are promoting gambling. They take the sponsorship money but the money a player or manager goes in to a bookies there is outcry.

“If these firms pulled out their money, Scottish football would be in big trouble so it’s a major issue.

“Brian Rice should not be punished, he should be given help.”

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh , said: “Am I the only one who has zero sympathy for well paid footballers, whom, after a couple of training sessions per day, hang about turf accountants, or sit playing online poker?

Hamilton boss Brian Rice said his decision to open up on his gambling addiction was one of the hardest decisions of his life (SNS Group)

“I associate that behaviour with souls who are educationally challenged, and have zero interests. They obviously have more money then sense.”

Elsewhere that Alfredo Morelos  gesture debate is on Day 13577 or something, with John Hartson the latest to slam the Colombian.

James Forsyth, Bellshill , said: “So John Hartson thinks Alfredo’s behaviour was a bad example to kids even though it was allegedly a time up gesture.

“Lucky he didn’t set upon a team mate in training and.severely kick him in the head. Then again that might have been a spur of the moment incident.  Glass houses and stones come to mind.”

Gary Shields emailed: Please tell Hartson to get it right, he is obviously still irked with Rangers for not signing him all those years ago .

"Is it okay then for Rangers support to suffer looking at hanging effigies and disgusting banners from the so called fragile Celtic support but I suppose that’s okay Mr Hartson

Frank McFerren, Carrickfergus, said: “I see the Rangers reject Hartson is flapping his gums again, he definitely has an agenda against Morelos. A very petty guy.”

Former Celtic striker John Hartson has praised the SFA (Daily Record)

Lance Little, Erskine , said: “Well done to Big John for his brutally honest and factually correct comments about the Morelos incident.

“The people and entities he said should be ashamed should also be embarrassed.”

Celtic fans are looking for signings – while Rangers supporters reckons their rivals are running scared.

Peter Higgins, Livingston , said: “I can’t believe Lennon and Lawwell are not heading down to Leicester and Spurs to bring back Benkovic and Wanyama on loan. They are both top drawer players who know what it means to play for Celtic .”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “I hope Neil Lennon resists the temptation of reinstating Jonny Hayes at Kilmarnock. Greg Taylor will feel more at home on the plastic pitch which could turn out to be a banana skin type fixture in waiting.”

John Bruce, via email, said: “Celtic have signed a £3 million striker that no-one has ever heard of, but will no doubt become the Polish Pele after scoring against Hearts or Hamilton and be worth at least £20 million.

“Leigh Griffiths scored against second bottom Championship club Partick Thistle in their narrow cup-tie victory, and we’re now told that he’s back.

“League leaders-elect Rangers won’t be quaking at any of this news as they quietly go about their business – despite the best efforts of biased pundits, poor referees and the risible SFA to derail them.”

Gers fan Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “Our squad is settled and hungry, while Celtic’s is all over the place and inferior, as the previous two Old Firm games have shown. They need referee help to get a goal against us.”

Tom McGuire, Bracknell, said: “I get the feeling Celtic fans are starting to get squeaky bum time. They are going on about making signings, so perhaps they are beginning to realise Rangers have the better squad.”

John Davidson, Armadale,   said: “With Stevie G sending the fringe players out on loan, which frees up wages, I hear there could be a marquee signing before the transfer window closes, watch this space.”

While John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Will Rangers please give it a rest with the no one likes us whinging as its wearing very thin now. Ryan Porteous at Hibs was slaughtered for his tackle at Easter Road with everyone carrying on as if he had torn Barisic’s leg off at the knee.

“He took his punishment, as did the Hibs bench, with humility and contrition, yet here are Rangers carrying on as if the entire country was out to grind them down. Enough already.”
