The Celtic board have sold the fans short but at least empty jersey Odsonne Edouard is leaving – Hotline

It looks like the end of the road for Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie at Celtic – but Hoops fans weren’t too bothered about the duo’s impending deadline day departures.

As Record Sport reported on Monday night Edouard is on the verge of a £15million move to Crystal Palace while Christie looks set for a cut price move to Championship Bournemouth.

But David Bryce, Troon, said: “I’m glad to see the back of the non-trying Edouard. He has been an empty jersey for over a year and won’t be missed. In saying that the board have sold the fans short again. They will come out of this window approximately £12million pounds in credit. They have zero ambition and if they think that Leigh Griffiths and Albian Ajeti are adequate back up to Kyogo and the incoming Greek striker, they are hugely mistaken.”

And Paul McArdle, Port Glasgow, said: “Celtic may not have got much of a fee for Christie but we have saved £3million on replacing lost balls launched out of the stadium. This time next year you will be a Gumtree Galactico.”

Away from D-Day and the fallout from Sunday’s Old Firm derby continues to take up the majority of the airwaves.

Depleted Rangers 1-0 win has certainly caused a stir. And Hoops Hotline regular Gordon Ashley more than anyone was having to suck it up.

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “By the time the teams meet again in January Celtic won't have beaten Rangers for nearly two-and-a-half years in the league and Rangers have just beaten them at Ibrox for the fourth time since January. All the possession with the likes of McGregor and Christie running around at 100 miles an hour and getting absolutely nowhere just plays into Rangers hands .

"Gerrard totally has their measure and can still beat them with a depleted team whilst he is indoors watching the racing. The comical Gordon Ashley who has been constantly telling us Rangers gained advantage last year with no crowds now tells us they benefited on Sunday from a full house of Rangers supporters!”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, pointed out: “Celtic may have had 66 per cent possession at Ibrox but the truth is it was pointless possession when they can't make it count. There's no point in anyone claiming Celtic faired better this time at Ibrox compared to last season when the end result was still a Rangers win.”

Ian Melvin, Cambuslang, said: “The mental gymnastics of your regular Gordon Ashley are hysterical. He banged on about a ‘training ground title’. Well, Rangers just beat his team in front of over 50,000. Celtic are mid-table and have lost 50 per cent of their league games. Sobering.”

Alfie Mullin, London, added: “People have been banging on about Angeball and saying that the manager has the team playing the Celtic way. I have to say that Angeball only seems to work against poor sides. In saying that, the manager has his team playing the Celtic way, they're getting beaten by Rangers as usual.”

And John Stewart, Newton Mearns, said: “After hearing so much about Angeball, I think it looks just the same as Lennyball.”

Celtic fan Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, reckons the Hoops need another midfielder. He said: “Yet again our inability to defend a set piece came back to haunt us yesterday and stopped us from getting a deserved draw. However the two week international break will help Christopher Jullien get his fitness back and that will help. It was disappointing though to see Celtic’s midfield being outfought in the second half and a more robust player is needed and Lewis Ferguson would tick all the boxes.”

And Paul Price, Belfast , said: “As gutted as I am after Sunday’s result there were a lot of positives in our performance and when James Forrest and Christopher Julien return we'll be even better. You could see the relief in the Rangers players faces at full time as they know we're getting better. In big Ange we trust.”

Finally, Aberdeen fan Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, called to say: “I attended Pittodrie to watch the Dons huff and puff against a hard working Ross County side. Dave Cormack has supplied the ingredients, now Stephen Glass has to mould a winning side. Hopefully the next two weeks will allow rest and more team bonding.”
