The Celtic and Rangers penalty shootout title decider as wacky phone-in caller thinks he has the answer

Football is in turmoil, and no-one has the answers we need.

Not Celtic, Rangers, the SFA, the SPFL, Fifpro, the European Leagues, the European Clubs Association, UEFA themselves...no-one can seem to agree on a universal way forward from this coronavirus crisis.

Well, no-one except Colin from Nitshill.

Colin from Nitshill has the answer, and football's top brass should heed his advice: penalty shootouts.

"All remaining fixtures should be played out with penalty shootouts," Scottish football's new hero said on a Clyde Superscoreboard phone-in.

"It's simple, players are a safe distance apart. I can't come up with any negatives except it's a last resort and not what we want to see.

"It's in the game already and that's what it's there for, to decide the winners."

It's...definitely one of the more left-field suggestions we've heard, and his confidence really has to be admired.

But while it would allow fixtures to be played out on top of one another to bring the season to a quickfire end, it's difficult to imagine the SFA going for it.

You would also have to imagine quite a few season ticket holders, broadcasters, management teams and players themselves would have one or two protests to voice about the remainder of the season being decided on a lottery.

But other than the fact it would be almost universally unfair and satisfy absolutely no-one (except Colin himself), why not?

Even though the end result was questionable on this occasion, this might be the sort of outside-of-the-box thinking we need to get ourselves out of the woods.
