The cash injection Chelsea stand to lose or gain depending on where they finish this season

Chelsea's battle for a top four finish in the Premier League won't just affect whether they play in the Champions League next season, but also what cash injection they can either gain or lose.

Every one is well aware of the riches of the the top flight of English football, hence the reason the Championship play-off final is billed as the 'richest game in football', but there are all manner of different prize money that is given out at the end of the season.

All 20 teams in the Premier League receive an equal share of the £80.4million fund at the end of the season, regardless of where they finish, so Huddersfield Town will receive the same share as Liverpool or Manchester City.

There's also television money, with those hosting over ten games on the box netting an extra £12.3million, plus £1.1million for each game over the ten game mark.

The rest of the money is dependant on where you finish, meaning that even those clubs in mid table obscurity will want to finish as high as possible to get some extra cash at the end of the year.

That's where Chelsea come in.

Every placing in the Premier League is worth another £1.9million to the club, meaning if they are able to finish in third place this season they will bag themselves a nice little cash injection of £34.2million.

Should they finish in sixth place, however, and miss out on the Champions League places, that prize money will drop by £5.7million to £28.5million and that could be the difference between being able to renew a player's contract.

Finishing fifth would net Chelsea £30.4million, giving the Blues another big reason to finish in the Champions League places.

They might not be able to spend that money this summer with Fifa's transfer ban looming, but add to that the money they might get for Eden Hazard and it starts to look like a very big war chest for Chelsea to spend once the ban is finished.

The true value of Chelsea's squad revealed as Blues face an uncertain summer transfer window
