The case of Kumhrar: How a mathematician intends to storm the BJP’s fortress in Bihar

Located in Patna district, the assembly constituency of Kumhrar holds great value for the BJP. The party has continuously scripted wins here since 1990, with the late Sushil Kumar Modi serving three terms as MLA and Arun Sinha currently holding the seat.

Standing in Kumhrar, which is remarkably run-down with a layer of uncleared garbage, a resident says, “Even a dog standing here in the BJP’s name will win.”

This year, the BJP has bypassed sitting MLA Sinha to field Sanjay Gupta as candidate, pitting him against Indradeep Chandravanshi of the Congress and KC Sinha of the Jan Suraaj.

KC Sinha, it would seem, has his work cut out for him. He’s well-known as a mathematician across India, writing over 70 books to tutor students on the subject. But he’s also quietly confident of his chances, telling Newslaundry his party will change the face of education in Bihar.

Does he really stand a chance? And what are his party’s other promises for the constituency? Watch to find out.
