The Cardiff streets with the most potholes and damaged pavements

The streets where the most complaints are made about potholes and broken and damaged pavements have been revealed. New data following a Freedom of Information Request shows the number of complaints made about streets in the last three years up to March 2023.

The data shows Cardiff Council has spent nearly £100,000 on fixing potholes in that period (but the figure, exactly £96,285, also includes scheduled repairs as well as repairing ones residents have complained about). It takes the council an average of 14 days between receiving a complaint and doing work, and the council confirmed it received a total of 7,191 complaints in this period, with it being deemed no work was required for 3,804 of these.

The council spent considerably more fixing broken or damaged pavements - £1,632,330 in the three-year period. It took an average of 34 days for work to go ahead after complaints about pavements, with 1,810 of 3,431 complaints resulting in work being required.

In 2022, Cardiff Council defended filling in potholes on the streets King Charles was set to visit after the death of Queen Elizabeth II and residents asked: "Why do we have to wait for a royal visit for our streets to be fixed?" The council replied: "This is standard practice for all large, high profile visits in Cardiff to ensure the city is ready to host what is a historic event that many of us will never see again in our lifetime."
