The Cardiff house of horrors complete with giant spider, severed bodies, and 'blood' for Halloween

In the middle of an ordinary Cardiff street lies a true house of horrors.

As you approach, the first thing you see is a severed body being eaten by an overgrown spider.

Look past the web-covered hedges, past the tombstones and scattered skeletons and on the doorstep lies a skull, covered in gore.

That's because Cardiff's most-haunted house has returned for another year, ready to attract trick or treaters from around the city.

Llandaff resident, and haunted house owner Danny Hargreaves, said: "The spider is up with all the rest of the creepy crawlies and carcasses. I've gone a bit more gory this year.

"Everyone has been expecting it so I can't go without doing it. Even the neighbours were saying they loved the house and were wondering if we were doing it this year. I have to make it bigger and better."

The founder of special effects company, Real SFX, Danny's home first began to attract attention when the overgrown spider made an appearance on his roof last Halloween.

At the time, his family had been away, and the decorations were all part of an elaborate plan to surprise them upon their return.

This year it took Danny two days to complete his masterpiece in Howell's Crescent.

Danny said: "This year [my family] have been helping, me which is why there are a few more bits.

"Last year we had people coming round from all over Cardiff and the surrounding area and even the Valleys. We had people parking up their cars just to see it and people came knocking on the door asking why we were doing it. It's all for the kids you know.

"It's a big area where people drop off the kids. It's always had a really positive response but we might get a few comments this year."

Despite his line of work, Danny harbours one big Halloween hang up - spiders.

The father-of-two, who has already journeyed to Costco to stock up on sweets ahead of the big night, said: "I hate spiders and this year it's a big spider. I don't know how I did it!"

Speaking previously, he said: "We have kids crossing the street to the other side of the road so they don't have to walk past [the house].

"I don't want to terrify anyone but it's the whole nature of Halloween.

"I'm absolutely terrified of spiders. When there's a spider in the house my wife has to pick it up."
