The Cardiff City vs Middlesbrough team news you can expect to see

Cardiff City welcome Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon for what promises to be a tightly-fought contest in the Welsh capital.

Neil Warnock has provided fitness updates ahead of the tie, with Neil Etheridge and Alex Smithies set to cause the manager the biggest selection headache.

Meanwhile Lee Tomlin looks to be recovering well from his injuries following a car accident, which ruled him out of the game against Derby County last week, and could be fit enough to start.

The manager also revealed that Danny Ward is in contention to make his first appearance of the season, having missed the start of the campaign with an Achilles problem.

Elsewhere, Sol Bamba and Marlon Pack are closing in on returns to action, they both could line up for the Under-23s in the coming weeks, but neither will feature this weekend.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing could well be in contention to start his first game since the sobering 3-0 defeat by Reading a few weeks ago, so both wing berths could be hotly contested.

It'll be a tough test for the Bluebirds, who are likely to come up against the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Flethcher, both forwards have been in promising form this term.

But City will hope their own attacking threat, Robert Glatzel, builds on the momentum and confidence he gained from notching his first goal for the club last weekend.

Middlesbrough meanwhile, have George Friend and Hayden Coulson out with thigh injuries, while Jonny Howson, although he is on his way back from hernia surgery, could be in contention.

We've given our verdict on the City team, but you can select your XI below.

Our Cardiff City XI: Etheridge; Peltier, Morrison, Flint, Bennett; Ralls, Bacuna, Tomlin; Mendez-Laing, Murphy, Glatzel
