The Cardiff City v Bristol City player ratings as Wolves man bright but errors prove costly

Cardiff City have lost their first Championship match of the season against Bristol City, with the Bluebirds coming up short in a 2-1 defeat.

Here's how the Cardiff players rated:

Dillon Phillips 5

Should have come out and snuffed out the danger for Weimann's goal. His indecision probably cost City there.

Sean Morrison 6

Can't think of too much the skipper did wrong. Embroiled in a melee in the second half.

Aden Flint 6

As expected, won his fair share of headers against the Bristol forwards and in the opposition box. Another who perhaps dithered for Weimann's goal, though.

Curtis Nelson 6

A relatively tidy afternoon for the centre back. Didn't do too much wrong.

Tom Sang 5

A frustrating one. Did some brilliant things but also made the wrong decision with a long shot or poor cross. Let the ball drop over him for Weimann's second.

Marlon Pack 6

Was largely a calming and composed presence in the middle. Kept things simple and solid.

Joe Ralls 6

Did well to keep things ticking over in midfield and drove the game forward much better than we have seen recently.

Joel Bagan 7

Did well to send in a number of really dangerous crosses. Also did excellently to connect with a header which was just tipped wide.

Ryan Giles 7 (star man)

The obvious touch of real class in this City side. The delivery he has is second to none and he prompted so many dangerous attacks.

Leandro Bacuna 5

Was largely anonymous until the end of the first half when he sent in a lovely cross for Bagan and drilled a volley at Dan Bentley. His error played a part in the second.

Kieffer Moore 7

Looked really up for it. Won a number of individual battles and linked-up play nicely. Had one attempt cleared off the line before his cross was turned home by Bentley.

SUBS

Rubin Colwill (on for Bacuna '73) 6 - Showed a fleetness of foot when he came on and got the fans excited.

James Collins (on for Sang '73) 6 - Had one header saved from Ralls' cross and linked play well enough.
