The Cardiff City transfer headlines as Neil Harris makes additions statement and Leicester City's Filip Benkovic drops Celtic hint

Here's your round-up of all the latest transfer news and gossip from the Cardiff City Stadium for Friday, January 8.

Harris drops opens up on transfer approach

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris admits he would like to make permanent additions to his squad in this window rather than digging into the loan market once more.

The Bluebirds are unlikely to splash the cash in January, but are nevertheless believed to be looking outside of the loan market, recently submitting a bid for Crewe Alexandra's Perry Ng.

However, Harris has warned that getting permanent deals over the line in the coming weeks could prove difficult.

"You’re allowed five loans in a matchday squad," he said. "So ideally we’d like one or two more, but ideally we’re thinking about the bigger picture.

"We’re the model of a club that wants to find younger players and have our own players developing over a period of time.

"If we can sign permanent players then fantastic, but how many permanent transfers do you get in January? Very, very few."

Benkovic in Celtic reunion hint

Recently-recalled loanee Filip Benkovic is believed to be open to a return to former club Cetlic.

A source close to the player has told The Scotsman that there had "not as yet" been any discussions over a return to Glasgow for the centre-back.

It's a hint that will only further fuel speculation about a return to the Scottish champions, with Benkovic seemingly unlikely to break into Leicester's first-team plans this season.

After similarly finding game-time hard to come by in the Welsh capital, City boss Harris said he had "no complaints whatsoever" about the Foxes choosing to take him back.

The player himself is believed to be keen on a move north of the English border.

Crewe boss hits out at 'disgusting' Cardiff bid

Crewe Alexandra boss Dave Artell says the club rejected a 'disgusting' bid from Cardiff City for captain Perry Ng.

Ng has seemingly emerged as a top target for City in this window, with Artell confirming that the club have already rejected a concrete bid from the Bluebirds.

He said: "I think we have responded (to the offer), but it didn't warrant a response, it was disgusting. It came about through an agent who is trying to force a deal. He's not working for us because we don't pay agents. He's trying to get a deal going, but he's miles away - between here and Mars to be honest.

"Perry understands that. He's been a terrific leader and a terrific captain. He's got another four months if he runs down his contract, but if he doesn't we have him for another few years.

"I've spoken to his agent and he was fuming about how the 'deal' came about."

Cardiff interest in Roberts played down

Cardiff City are not in the running for Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts.

Reports had recently suggested that the Bluebirds were among a clutch of clubs interested in taking Roberts on loan until the end of the season.

However, while Cardiff insiders view Roberts as an impressive talent, WalesOnline understands those reports are wide of the mark.
