The Cardiff City ratings as star gives Liverpool man the runaround but defender has day to forget

Here's how the Cardiff City players rated following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

NEIL ETHERIDGE 7

Solid as ever. Produced a fine save to deny Mo Salah in the first half and was powerless to prevent Liverpool’s opener.

LEE PELTIER 6

Coped well with the challenge of the front three in the first half, but like several of this colleagues endured a difficult second 45 minutes.

SEAN MORRISON (C) 5

Pretty solid defensively and wasn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with Virgil van Dijk, but his glaring miss and his foul for the penalty undid a lot of his good work.

What the Cardiff City v Liverpool final score means for Premier League title and relegation situation

BRUNO MANGA 7

Strong in the tackle and just as solid as previous performances. Passing was a little sloppy at times, but otherwise a good performance against Liverpool’s front three

JOE BENNETT 6

Linked up well with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing going forward, but was faced a tough task defensively.

JOE RALLS 5

Struggled to make an impact. Was always going to find it hard to dictate the game in the way he did in the Amex. Subbed off injured.

ARON GUNNARSSON 6

Similarly, found life much tougher in the middle against a side that kept possession brilliantly. Given a tough assignment and may well be feeling a little sore in the morning. Can’t fault the effort but little to get excited about

NATHANIEL MENDEZ-LAING 8 STAR MAN

The star of the show at Brighton. Once again in lively mood here. Gave Trent Alexander-Arnold a thorough examination of his abilities at times and is pace on the counter always looked Cardiff’s best chance of getting something.

VICTOR CAMARASA 5

Quiet for most of the game. Didn’t get much of a sniff for most of the afternoon.

JUNIOR HOILETT 7

Made some probing runs on the right-hand side, but was frustrated by Andrew Robertson for much of the afternoon. Subbed late on

OUMAR NIASSE 6

Once again, you cannot fault his effort. Ran the channels well and should have opened his account in the first half. Subbed
