The Cardiff City player ratings as new man impresses but Bobby Reid and Gary Madine struggle to take their chance

The Cardiff City player ratings from the 3-2 defeat to Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Neil Etheridge 7

Didn't have much to do, but was typically solid when called upon. His departure signalled a turn in the game.

Lee Peltier 6

Was pulled out of position a couple of times and perhaps should have done more to close down Evans before the winning goal.

Aden Flint 8 - Star Man

Looks an absolute unit. Won everything in the air and looks like he could be a formidable force at the back.  A really strong debut.

Sean Morrison 5

At fault for the penalty and was given a torrid time by Josh Windass when he got the ball on the deck. Too slow for the second goal.

Joe Bennett 7

Not a massive amount to take issue with here. Solid in the tackle and linked up well with others in the counter-attack. A reasonably solid effort.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 7

Once again showed his lightning pace in the counter-attack, although there are still questions over his end product.

Joe Ralls 7

Very lucky to still be on the pitch, but pulled the strings well in the middle of the park and took his goal nicely.

Leandro Bacuna 6

Looked a sizeable presence in front of the back four, but his influence waned as the game went on.

Josh Murphy 6

Much the same as Mendez-Laing. Promising in the build-up but little end product. Warnock will surely demand more. Was replaced midway through the second half.

Bobby Reid 5

Missed a great chance early in the second half. Showed flashes of promise, but otherwise a quiet performance.

Gary Madine 5

Threw himself about well, but never really looked like scoring. Replaced.

SUBS

Joe Day (on for Etheridge, 56 mins) Made a great save to deny Windass and could do little about the goals 7

Omar Bogle (on for Madine, 63 mins) Offered a welcome injection of energy and bagged a great goal 7

Gavin Whyte (on for Murphy, 76 mins) A quiet debut 6
