The Cardiff City player ratings as fuming star shows his passion and attacker sacrifices himself in Chelsea drama

Cardiff City were beaten by two late Chelsea goals, despite taking the lead thanks to a Victor Camarasa strike.

Here’s how the players rated…

NEIL ETHERIDGE 6

His long-range kicking still leaves plenty to be desired but the keeper generally handled well, though barely made a save until he was (twice) picking it out of his net.

LEE PELTIER 7

A couple of tasty looking early challenges let Willian know he was in for a battle. He even managed a left-footed shot on target in the first half. Solid.

SEAN MORRISON 7

Put himself at risk going to ground tackling Willian but managed to get the ball and avert a penalty. Slipped at a crucial moment in the second half… but was otherwise in control against Gonzalo Higuain.

Cardiff City v Chelsea Post Match Reaction

BRUNO MANGA 7

Went about his defensive business with calm assurity especially in the first half and won cheers for dealing with one bit of danger before half-time. Troubled more after the break.

JOE BENNETT 6

Dutifully stuck to his task though will be disappointed both crosses for Chelsea’s goals came from his side.

STAR MAN - ARON GUNNARSSON 8

Rock solid in the challenge and marshalled the troops around him with authority, then played a pivotal role in Camarasa’s goal. Visibly angry after the Chelsea turnaround.

HARRY ARTER 7

Effervescent in midfield as usual and Cardiff looked worse off when Arter was replaced by Joe Ralls.

VICTOR CAMARASA 7

Unusually quiet in the first half but then came to life with that fantastic finish less than a minute after the restart. Some lovely transition play to get Cardiff going on the break.

Jamie Carragher's message to Cardiff City chiefs about Neil Warnock

JUNIOR HOILETT 7

Looks to be brimming with confidence again, his old last season self. Another good display going forward and back.

JOSH MURPHY 8

Looked to run with skill and directness whenever he could, with Marcos Alonso (among others) always concerned by Murphy’s pace.

OUMAR NIASSE 7

A really selfless and frankly very impressive performance up front. Gave himself to the team and reaped the rewards. A linchpin of Cardiff’s counter-attacking gameplan.

SUBS

Joe Ralls (for Arter)

Kenneth Zohore (for Niasse)

Mendez-Laing (for Murphy)

Subs unused: B. Murphy, Reid, Bacuna, Harris.

South American wonderkid Luis Diaz claims he has Cardiff City pre-contract agreement
