The Cardiff City evening transfer headlines as Bluebirds battle Sheffield Wednesday for Crystal Palace striker

Cardiff City are reportedly lining up a loan move for out-of-favour Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham.

It is understood the Bluebirds are in the market for a forward this week and it appears Wickham has emerged as a leading contender to fill that berth.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed City are in the race for Wickham's signature and are willing to offer more than the striker's former club Sheffield Wednesday for his services for the remainder of the season.

Wickham had barely been used all season by Palace, however since Christmas he has turned out five times, providing an assist and a goal in the process.

The 26-year-old has a decent goalscoring record for Palace, 11 goals in 50 games, however given the loan signing of Cenk Tosun from Everton this month and with the likes of Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew also at Selhurst Park, Wickham will likely find game time a struggle.

Cardiff, on the other hand, have seen Gary Madine leave with Omar Bogle seemingly frozen out. Isaac Vassell is a long-term injury, too.

Robert Glatzel and Danny Ward have shone in patches, but the Bluebirds are really looking for consistency and Neil Harris is desperate to add to that forward line this week.

Elsewhere, Malaysian hotshot Luqman Hakim Shamsudin will link up with Cardiff City next month before joining Vincent Tan-owned KV Kortrijk in March.

The 17-year-old forward was meant to be heading to South Wales earlier, however Malaysia’s Under-19s coach has kept him in the country to take a further look at him.

He currently plays for Selangor in Malaysia, near the capital of Kuala Lumpur, but is set to join Belgian outfit Kortrijk on a five-year deal in the spring after a stint training with the Bluebirds.

“I was told that I will only be leaving sometime in February as I need to answer a national call-up soon,” Malaysian outlet  New Strait Times report Luqman as saying.

“But so far I have not heard anything.

“Currently, I am training with the Selangor team,” said Luqman, who turns 18 on March 5.”

The youngster, who turns 18 in March, reportedly caught the eye of Kortrijk when they watched videos of him playing.

However, it is not uncommon for Tan-owned clubs to collaborate when it comes to players.

We saw when Kenneth Zohore signed from Kortrijk back in 2016 that the clubs enjoy good working relationships and if Luqman impresses, the Bluebirds will certainly be keeping tabs.
