The Cardiff City 12pm transfer update as Robert Glatzel linked with Germany move and Sheffield Wednesday make Josh Murphy decision

Cardiff City are closing in on a move for Charlton Athletic midfielder Jonny Williams.

It's understood the Welshman is undergoing a medical in the capital ahead of a move, which could be worth around £200,000.

Williams' arrival will see him once again link up with boss Mick McCarthy, who twice took the player on loan when he was in charge at Ipswich Town.

Confirming the news, Charlton boss Lee Bowyer said: “He’s only got a little bit left on his contract and this is the right thing for the club. It is a good deal for the club – and Jonny wanted to go there."

Elsewhere, there are still questions around the future of striker Robert Glatzel.

Recent reports had linked the striker with a move to Middlesbrough, but it's now understood that a loan to Bundesliga side Mainz is also now a real possibility.

His departure would clear the pathway for City to get another striker on board before the 11pm deadline, with Sheffield Wednesday's Jordan Rhodes among the names to be mentioned.

However, one man who won't be heading the other way is winger Josh Murphy.

According to Yorkshire Live, the Owls have ended their interest in the winger, who has also been linked with Nottingham Forest and Derby County.

Talks were held with the player, who appeared to be frozen out under City boss Neil Harris. But the arrival of McCarthy as Bluebirds manager appears to have given Murphy a fresh start, and he now looks set to stay in south Wales.

Meanwhile, Neil Warnock could yet be reunited with one of his former City stars.

According to Sky, Middlesbrough are leading Derby in the chase for former Bluebirds winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who was sacked by Cardiff earlier in the season.
