The Camden-inspired plans for a new shipping container bar at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre

A new shipping container bar could be opened at Wales Millennium Centre.

The centre in Cardiff Bay wants to open a new bar and patio area outside the entrance to its on-site Ffresh restaurant.

If allowed by Cardiff council , the new bar area would have 104 seats, which could be packed up at the end of the day, along with performance zones for musicians, screenings and readings.

Potential opening times for the new bar could be 12pm to 10pm Monday to Sunday, according to a planning application submitted to the council.

Wales Millennium Centre hopes the new bar would be used alongside events such as markets and outdoor screenings.

The application says: "The proposed site will create an external, flexible food and beverage offer.

"One that can change with consumers taste and trends offering flexibility to bespoke events and performances.

"The design will also flare with creativity providing areas for readings, performances, busking, screenings and a street piano.

"Although the primary aim is to create a highly successful commercial business, we also want the space to be animated and encourage dwell time, in keeping with benchmarks like the public areas in Kings Cross and Camden in London."

The 39m sq shipping container would also have an accessible ramp, and a high and low serving and counter area.
