The calamitous Feyenoord defending Rangers can punish as footage shows comical own goal

Feyenoord boss Jaap Stam admitted on Sunday his side's defending left him "clenching his buttocks" on the sidelines.

With a quick look at this footage, he wasn't being dramatic.

The Dutch giants head for Ibrox on Thursday as the Europa League group stage kicks off for another season.

They warmed up for Rangers with a victory over Ado Den Haag that became much trickier than it needed to be.

Feyenoord raced into a three-goal lead via penalties from Rick Karsdrop and Leroy Fer either side of Luciano Narsingh's delightful dinked finish.

But with the points seemingly in the bag, Stam's side suffered two defensive aberrations that will have Steven Gerrard sensing opportunity.

Den Haag slice through Feyenoord with alarming ease, sub Dion Malone being allowed to saunter in the final third unchecked.

One pass picks out Malone and eliminates Stam's entire midfield. His shot is parried by keeper Kenneth Vermeer.

The rebound falls to Karsdrop with time to turn but his pass out is sloppy and Den Haag come again.

Orkun Kokcu races over to block the cross but falls over in his initial effort. The cross is then blocked again by Karsdrop but Feyenoord don't react to the second ball.

Den Haag then get a third attempt at delivering and this time they take their chance.

The cross should be easily dealt with by Edgar Ie but he inexplicably attempts a disastrous acrobatic clearance and slices the ball past Vermeer.

Minutes later, a simple delivery from the flank results in Renato Tapia heading straight into his own net in what would've been a very fine finish at the right end.

It ensured a nervy finish to a game which should have been even further out of sight early in the second half.

Sam Larsson and earlier goalscorer Narsingh both failed to score when through one on one.

Luckily, it didn't quite cost Feyenoord in the end.
