The cafes and restaurants in Wales that you and your dog can enjoy

There are plenty of pubs and cafes across Wales that welcome dogs and their owners for a bite to eat and quench both of their thirsts.

Nothing says welcome like a pub with a dog fast asleep by the fire or a bowl outside a café for a dog to enjoy.

If you want to pop out for a warm drink and some pub grub but you don't want to leave your dog behind, we've found some of the most dog-friendly cafes in Wales.

Here are a selection of cozy pubs and welcoming cafes for you and your four legged friend to enjoy.

The Black Lion, Abergorlech

The Black Lion in Abergorlech, say they welcome kids, dogs and the occasional horse.

This 17th century coaching inn in the Brechfa Forest, is the perfect stop off for walkers wit thier fury friends, whose efforts are rewarded by hearty pub meal and a fresh bowl of water.

K9 Plus 1, Barry Island

Complimentary homemade dog treats, fresh water on arrival, a fluffy towel to dry off wet fur after a swim in the sea, and a warm bed for a little doze await puppers and their owners on Barry Island’s seafront. As you relax with a cuppa and a slice of sticky cake, Buster and Bella can treat themselves to some lickable frozen yoghurt and a tickle behind the ear from one of the dog-loving staff.

You can get lickable frozen yoghurt for you canine friend at this Barry Island cafe, which also serves all day breakfast, afternoon teas and seasonal goodies.

There are dog beds, food and water stations, and home made treats available while you relax and have a cuppa.

The Kings Head Inn, Llangennith

This amazing Gower Peninsula based 17th century inn allows your four legged friend to dine and stay even the night.

With pet-friendly accommodation, you can bring your dog along on your staycation whialt you emjoy long beach walks in Llangennith.

The pub is open from 11am-11pm Monday – Saturday, and 12-10.30pm on Sunday.

The Brit, Port Talbot

This cosy pub in Port Talbot is open slightly later in the morning - 11.30am - so is a good place to stop off if you fancy a post-morning walk cuppa. It's got an amazing log burner where your dog can curl up for a well-earned rest.

It also has a large beer garden so is great in the summer too.

The Bear, Crickhowell

The Bear Hotel in Crickhowell, pride themselves on their dog-friendliness and it's known that the staff are generous in handing out dog treats from their pockets, according to VistWales, staff are also known to slip bowls of freshly cooked chicken onto the floor.

L’s Coffee and Books, Conwy

L’s Coffee and Books, situated on the Conwy high street, is a lovely little café which is perfect for breakfast whilst planning the next route or just a rest.

Dogs are very welcome in L’s and they even organise a Sunday walk around Conwy for dogs (and their owners!) which ends at L’s for coffee, and a bacon butty. An idyllic Sunday spot.

The Sun Trevor, Llangollen

The Sun Trevor in Llangollen is set on the hillside with great views of the lovely Vale of Llangollen, the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union Canal swings right by this dog-friendly pub

It's the perfect location to stop off for a cold refreshing pint and a pub meal.

The Kings Head, Llandudno

If you’ve just walked you dog around Great Orme, then the Kings Head in Llandudno is the perfect pit-stop.

The Kings Head is Llandudno's Oldest Pub and Serves homemade pub food and Roast dinners on Sunday with real ale and live music events throughout the summer.

Blue Pelican Cafe, Penarth

Dogs are so welcome here that there is a special area of the cafe dedicated to the doggy diners.

There is a huge breakfast menu, ranging from a full Welsh breakfast to waffles, eggs Benedict and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs.

You will even get a free doggycinno for your four-legged friend.

Breakfast is served from 9am to 11.30am.

The Dragon’s Back, Pengenffordd

After your thrilling walkies in the Black Mountains, your fury friend can rest their paws in the welcoming bar of this 300-year-old pub.

According to VisitWales, this is the highest dog-friendly pub in the Brecon Beacons National Park, standing at more than a 1,000ft above sea level.

Scruffypups, Cardiff

Scruffy Pups opened in a converted boxing gym in Llanrumney in August 2020 and their facilities for four-legged customers include dog grooming, washing and an agility area as well as a menu featuring puppuccinos and doggy doughnuts.

However, they also serve delicious food for customers on two legs, including reuben sandwiches, birria tacos, buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches, smashed burgers, and burritos.

Drago Lounge, Newport

At Drago Lounge in Newport, dogs are offered a water bowl on arrival to keep them hydrated and there's plenty of treats available on the bar.

Food is fantastic and they offer extra menus for those who are Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten free and most of the meals cost an average of £8.

Coed-y-Mwstwr, Bridgend

In this Victorian mansion near the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, your pup can join you for lunch or dinner in the lounge and bar areas.

You can even arrange a special Doggy Afternoon Tea that features bacon and peanut butter bone biscuits, frozen banana and yoghurt paw pops, chicken and beef meatloaf, and salmon and sweet potato brownies. Your pooch can even wash it all down with a bottle of Pawsecco!
