The café in the unlikeliest of places selling great food with huge portions

Featuring pizza, loaded fries and pulled pork, this menu sounds like it would be perfectly at home at a hipster foodie pop-up. But this food is actually what you can expect to see at a café at the side of a stand at a Welsh football club.

Goody's offers some of the finest food at any football ground in the UK, and they're not just limited to matchdays but offer a delivery service between 5pm and 9.30pm from Wednesday to Saturday.

As a huge fan of Welsh football I have visited the vast majority of grounds in north Wales and part of my routine often involves sampling some of the matchday grub on offer. I have to be honest and say that whilst some grounds do excellent food, sadly not everywhere is up to scratch.

Flint Town United are one of our biggest clubs. And though they were unfortunately relegated from the Cymru Premier at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, they have some superb facilities at their Essity Stadium home and will be looking to return to the top-flight. And one thing that's improved at the Cae-y-Castell ground in recent times is the catering.

Whilst your traditional football ground food might be a hotdog or a burger with a mug of Bovril, Goody's offer so much more. From pizzas to loaded fries, chicken wings to delicious desserts, they've got the lot. I visited on a warm Thursday afternoon and met up with Phil Davies, a committee member at the club. Phil explained that whilst people can order online and have the food delivered, part of the reason they wanted to offer better food was to attract more matchday supporters also.

As Phil agreed to share some of the food with me, I decided to go a bit wild and ordered a Mafia Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, red onions and nduja), a classic burger (two patties, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, crispy onions and burger sauce), loaded fries with pulled pork and some BBQ chicken goujons. This came to a very reasonable £26.50.

When the food came it felt like manna from heaven. The portion sizes were more than generous and the taste was exquisite. The pizza was tremendous - a lovely, crispy base with delicious toppings, truly gorgeous. It got even better, the BBQ goujons were amongst the finest I've ever tasted and that's coming from a dyed-in-the-wool goujons fan!

The burger and loaded fries more than lived up to expectations and while I had a good go at trying to finish my half of the goods, I just couldn't manage the large portion sizes, even with Phil's help. So if you're in the Flint area and fancy a home delivery or even popping down to the Essity Stadium, matchday or not, I'd thoroughly recommend Goody's - surely the best food at a football ground in Wales, maybe even the UK.
