THE BUZZ: G Flip juggernaut to land at Cambridge Hotel

ON FIRE: G Flip had three tracks included in the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2019.

ABOUT TIME You couldn't tune into Triple J last year without hearing the indie-pop hits of Georgia Flipo, best known as G Flip. Her debut album About Us and its tracks Drink Too Much, Killing My Time and About You were everywhere.

Not surprisingly she landed three entries in the Triple J Hottest 100, including a top-10 placing for Drink Too Much (No.6).

"I get a lot of lovely heart-warming messages," Flipo told the Newcastle Herald in December when asked about the reaction to her music. "It seems like people who have gone through some heartache or break up seem to really connect with the album, because the majority of it is about that.

"It's about a relationship that's on and off and missing someone and then loving someone so much and longing for them to be with you."

Finally Newcastle audiences will have their opportunity to gauge the hype for themselves when G Flip makes her debut at the Cambridge Hotel on Friday, May 22. While she performed at last year's Groovin The Moo in Maitland, the multi-instrumentalist is yet to play a stand-alone Hunter show.

The gig is tipped to sell out and a second show is tentatively scheduled for May 21.

MUDFEST Organisers for The Drop will be happy they opted to shift the music festival from King Edward Park to Bar Beach's Empire Park for its second edition on Saturday. Last year's wet event was marred by extensive damage caused to the idyllic park, with some residents from The Hill claiming the venue was left "scarred."

With heavy rain falling in Newcastle in recent days, The Drop will again be a damp affair. Let's hope the flat sand-based Empire Park fairs OK, as well as ticket sales.
