The Butterfly Club by Jacqueline Wilson - review

Jacqueline Wilson, The Butterfly Club

Tina is a triplet, but isn't treated like one. She had a heart condition when she was a baby and is much smaller than her two sisters, Maddie and Phil.

When Tina and her sisters move up to Year 3 in the Juniors, they are separated and put on different tables, where Tina's sisters make new friends. Unfortunately for the remaining triplet, she is put next to the scariest girl in the class, Selma. In addition, poor Tina has to put up with Selma whilst they create a butterfly garden. Through the process, however, Tina realises that there is more to Selma than meets the eye…

I think that The Butterfly Club is an extraordinary book, one of Jacqueline's best books by far. I love the friendship that forms between Tina, a small, shy girl, and Selma, a big, scary girl. Selma's personality changed due to how her parents and siblings treated her at home.

In addition to the excellent storyline, this book is also very touching. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who loves books about friendship through differences, or people who simply want to be wowed, which I was when I read this book.
