The Butterfly Club by Jacqueline Wilson - review

Jacqueline Wilson, The Butterfly Club

This book is about some triplets who are starting Year Three at school. These triplets are very close and do everything together. The triplet who tells the story is called Tina. She was born a lot smaller than her sisters and had to go into a incubator because of this she has a weak heart. This means she relies a lot on her sisters to protect her. Tina is a shy girl who finds school work more difficult than her sisters. Their new teacher is very strict and won't let the girls sit together. This results in Tina making friends with the class bully, Selma. Together they make a butterfly garden because Tina loves butterflies.

My favourite character is Selma because she shows that even if you are tough on the outside, your inside might be small and scared. My favourite part is when Tina invites Selma around for dinner and they make cupcakes. I like this part because it's the first time you get to see the true Selma. This book is good because it shows children that are bullies are not as bad as they seem. Sometimes the reason they are bullies is because they were bullied themselves or they are angry with their home life so they take it out on other children. There wasn't much I didn't like about this book and I think it is one of Jacqueline Wilson's better books.
I would give this book a 3 and a half or a 4 out of 5 .
