The Browns now have two QBs from the same high school

With the shutdown of the AAF, NFL teams around the league have been adding the Alliance’s top talent in recent days – and the Browns found a new quarterback with an interesting connection to starter Baker Mayfield.

The Browns announced Friday that they have signed Orlando Apollos quarterback Garrett Gilbert, a sixth-round draft pick of the Rams in 2014.

Gilbert began his college career at Texas and played in the 2010 national championship game, and later transferred to SMU. In the NFL, Gilbert bounced around several teams, and made his first regular-season appearance for the Panthers last December, days before being waived.

Gilbert grew up in Austin, Texas, and attended Lake Travis High School, where he was the 2008 USA Today Offensive Player of the Year. Three years later, current Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield led Lake Travis to the 2011 4A State Championship.
