The Browns changing fortunes and a potential new CBA

Reports have begun to surface that the NFLPA and the NFL are coming to the table to start work on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). If you’re a Browns fan, this is excellent news.

When new CBAs are negotiated, it is usually a lengthy process and could result in shortened seasons or in the worst case scenario, an entire season canceled. While no season has ever actually been canceled due to a failed agreement, it is possible. With the recent disagreements on social justice between players and ownership, along with issues of player safety, there is cause for concern.

This is also happening when the Cleveland Browns appear to be having a long overdue resurgence and appear to finally be contenders.

Whenever something starts to go right for the Browns it seems about ten other things go wrong. With General Manager John Dorsey, the tide has changed. The Browns have a contender on paper, but with contracts and the salary cap now ever present, the Browns need to win while they can afford all of their key pieces.

A lockout threatens that. You never know how long your window to win a Super Bowl is, but the Browns have their franchise quarterback which will keep them in the hunt. But, you look at QBs like Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers, both of whom will be in the Hall of Fame, only have one Super Bowl to their name.

The smart money is on the Browns to make a serious run next year, but that coincides with the possible lockout. Fortunately, both sides are already coming to the table and it seems to be trending with Cleveland’s fortunes. Let’s just hope it continues.
