The Brits viewers in stitches as they're shown old Adele performance instead as show hit by technical difficulties

The BRIT Awards 2023 had viewers scratching their heads after a technical issue forced the show to air an old performance from 2022. As viewers watched the action from London's O2 Arena on Saturday night, with big wins for Cheshire's Harry Styles who sent fans wild as he gave a nod to his One Direction bandmates, they were perplexed ‘when the awards screened on ITV cut to last year's footage of Adele.

"We have had some technical issues because it's live TV," explained host Mo Gilligan. "These things happen, we're in the real world."

He continued: "So while we get ready here's a classic performance from last year's Brit Award winner, it's only Adele. Check this out." Viewers took to Twitter with crying-laughing emojis and cracked jokes as they were treated to a performance of the superstar singing I Drink Wine.

An amused @Yxsminlouise· asked: "Has something gone wrong?! Why we watching Adele’s performance from last year?" @AdeIeChart laughed: "Adele had the best performance at the #Brits for the second year in a row."

@superTV247 decided: "This sums it all up not the best part of tonight’s #BRITs being a repeat of Adele’s performance from last year." @youvebeenjaked quipped: "#brits playing adele’s performance from last year to cleanse your ears from some of these performances."

@seanco0per joked: "Adele watching the #BRITS and thinking why am I on TV." @caIImebeepme complained with a reading a magazine on the couch GIF: "There’s no way they’re playing Adele’s performance from last year and expect us to still be tuned in."

@cameronclark_98 said: "The best moment of #Brits2023 has been Adele's performance from last year. Thank god for technical difficulties."

The glitzy ceremony saw Harry sweep four gongs and performances from acts including Stormzy and Lizzo. Harry, from Holmes Chapel, won Artist of the Year, Best Album for Harry's House, Best Pop and R&B Act and Song of the Year for As It Was. And rapper Aitch, from Moston, took the award home to "0161" for Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.

Viewers were also left 'cringing' from an awkward moment as singers Tom Grennan and Ellie Goulding presented an award together. As Little Bit Of Love and Lionheart hitmaker Tom and Love Me Like You Do and Burn singer Ellie stepped out on stage together, Ellie looked stunning in a black breastplate-style top with wide-legged trousers.

But viewers were taken aback when Tom brought attention to her top, saying "I love what you're doing." And then he asked: "They're real boobs?"

Other viewers complained that The Brit Awards 2023, the 43rd edition of the ceremony to recognise the best in British and international music, has been moved from its traditional mid-week slot to Saturday night. @IndeedItsMark asked: "I wonder what possess @ITV to show #TheBrits on Saturday night prime time."

They added: "Like the target audience are going to be out partying/clubbing whereas us fogies are sitting here thinking who the hell is that?" and @SallyRevell made the point: "#TheBrits on a Saturday seems wrong. I’m sure it was always a Tuesday?"
