While it might not completely ruin the experience altogether, it's never nice when you come across disgusting bogs at the pub.
Nobody wants the distinct stench of urine to linger in the nostrils longer than it should after a trip to the toilets and it's a pain when the soap has run out.
But not all loos are filthy, as the annual Loo of the Year Awards highlights.
Seen as The Oscars of the toilet industry (probably), the awards recently took place and nine separate Spoons in Bristol scooped the platinum rating for the 'exceptional' quality of their washrooms.
The awards aim to highlight and improve standards of toilet provision across the UK.
Loo of the Year Awards inspectors make unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK in order to judge them.
All of the toilets are graded silver, gold, platinum or diamond with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.
The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
