The Bristol streets where the most cars are stolen

Police data has revealed the Bristol streets worst-hit by car thefts.

The five roads most-targeted last year in the Avon and Somerset Constabulary force area all lie in and around Bristol.

While 636 cars were stolen in total, the worst-hit streets only saw three car thefts each.

This was the case for Church Road in Kingswood, Freemantle Gardens in Eastville, Lodge Causeway in Fishponds and West Town Lane in Knowle.

The data lists the A4174 (Avon Ring Road) as the fifth most-targeted road, with two offences.

During the same period, one Staffordshire high street saw a car stolen more than once a week on average.

Which cars are stolen?

The stats also revealed the car models most sought-after by thieves in the force area during 2018:

1. Vauxhall Astra - 28 thefts reported
2. Volkswagen Golf - 27
3. Vauxhall Corsa - 25
4. Ford Fiesta - 18
5. Ford (Europe) Focus - 18

Of the 17 forces that responded to GoCompare's Freedom of Information request for car theft data, Avon and Somerset had the 16th highest number of offences.

Kent Police, which ranked highest, saw a total of 3,444 car thefts in 2018.

But Avon and Somerset came fourth when ranked by increase in car thefts on the previous year, with a 15 per cent rise.

What police say

An Avon and Somerset spokesman told Bristol Live overall thefts of motor vehicles in the force area were down four per cent in 2018.

He said this was not reflected in the data because the Freedom of Information request did not take into account mopeds and motorcycles.

The spokesman added that thefts from motor vehicles fell by 11 per cent last year.

He said: "We encourage motorists to ensure their vehicles have a good alarm system fitted and are secured overnight."
