The Bristol pâtisserie where you can dine like Emily in Paris

It’s no surprise that the second season of Netflix’s Emily in Paris has seen a spike in intrigue for all things Parisian.

In fact, it’s left many of us craving expertly-crafted pastries and dainty macarons; a more realistic fantasy than the outrageously glamorous parties and never-ending decadent lunch breaks that we witness on screen.

Now, it’s not exactly environmentally friendly nor particularly realistic to jet to the city of love just to secure baked goods - but thankfully we have the next best thing in Clifton.

Only last month I stumbled upon a gastronomic gem in the city, somewhere that despite being on my doorstep, I’ve never noticed before.

BristoL’eclair is a dessert shop on Whiteladies Road that only opened its doors for the first time last summer. Despite being the new kid on the culinary block in the city, the shop has proved to be incredibly popular, even leading them to offer Deliveroo deliveries.

In the shop, you can find hand-crafted cakes, choux buns and canapé eclairs, as well as coffee to finish off the indulgence, not forgetting the personalised toppers, to make the bakes extra special.

My visit was on the eve of my birthday, so I decided to pick up a selection of pastries and share them with my family.

Emily Cooper would likely be thrilled with the hand-crafted pastries on offer (2021 Arnold Jerocki)

What caught my eye the most was the pretty display in the shop window, and as I looked in, I saw the sleek, white interior with the centrepiece being the brightly coloured, perfectly sized pastries sitting pretty in the glass cabinet.

I picked up a Paris-Brest, a chocolate and raspberry flavoured macaron cake and four winter eclairs: blueberry, tiramisu, black forest and salted caramel.

It was evident to see how much skill and attention to detail had gone into the pastries; the entire selection really was delicious and hit my French patisserie cravings without me even having to step foot out of my home city.

I will certainly be paying a visit again soon, as I don't think I will be able to steer clear for too long.
