The Bristol areas with the highest and lowest covid rates

A coastal town in the Bristol region currently has the area's highest covid rate - while an inner-city neighbourhood has got the lowest one.

Portishead currently has the region's highest infection rate (1,752.2 per 100,000) after 140 cases were reported in the seven days to March 13. In comparison, Barton Hill - which has the lowest rate in the region - reported 32 cases (382 per 100,000) in that same time period.

A total of 5,133 covid cases have been confirmed in Bristol in the past seven days, with 3,585 being recorded in South Gloucestershire and 3,123 in North Somerset. There were 55 patients in hospital with covid-19 at North Bristol NHS Trust on Tuesday, March 15, the latest data available. Two of these patients are in ventilation beds.

At University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, there were 63 patients in hospital with covid on that same day, with one being in a ventilation bed.

These are the areas with the highest covid rates in the region:

  • Portishead South 140 (1,752.2)
  • Ashton 110 cases, rate 1,614.1

And these are the lowest:

Coronavirus cases are back on the increase. Around 79,000 cases in the UK are being announced each day right now; a week prior, that number was 57,000. A week before that, it was 36,500.

The signs suggest that cases are continuing to rise, just ahead of testing being scaled back next month. From April 1, free tests will cease for the majority of the population.
