The brilliant video made by Welsh A&E staff fighting Covid-19 at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital

A&E staff fighting the coroanvirus epidemic on the frontline have created a video of them dancing and cleaning.

The video created by nurses at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital’s accident and emergency department shows the NHS workers cleaning and dancing along to Olly Murs’ song Dance With Me Tonight.

A member of staff posted the video on Facebook, sharing the message: “Me and my colleagues are determined to remain positive and fight against the Covid-19 virus, with a little help from Olly Murs.

“Please share a little positivity, from all at the Royal Glamorgan A&E department.”

As the nurses and healthcare professionals clean the department, they are shown dancing along to the lyrics “I won’t give up without a fight.”

Included in the video is a segment on hand washing, and images which show the healthcare workers in full Covid-19 protective gear.

A message at the end of the video says: “Here for you, 24/7.”

The hospital in Ynysmaerdy, Talbot Green is part of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg health board, which as of Sunday, March 22, had 13 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Before the outbreak, the A&E department at the hospital was going through a period of consultation regarding its downgrading of services.

Proposals being considered included reducing the department down to a minor injuries unit, with enhanced community care, or opening for reduced hours between 8am and 8pm.

Plans to reduce the services have since been put on hold.

The hospital has also temporarily closed its maternity unit, with women who planned to give birth their being made to use the services at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil or Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend instead.

Greg Dix, director of nursing, midwifery and patient care, said: “Due to national public health guidance around Covid-19, we have taken the difficult decision to temporarily close Tirion Birth Unit at Royal Glamorgan Hospital from 7pm on March 19.

“This measure is so we can ensure there are enough staff to deliver safe care to women and families across our health board units, as the need for many of our staff to take preventative health measures for Covid-19 has made staffing very challenging.”

NHS workers across the country have been praised for their work in helping the public fight the virus.
