The brilliant moment Jamaal Lascelles asks Newcastle United fans what #cans means

#Cans has taken on a life of its own on social media in recent weeks - and Newcastle United fans have left skipper Jamaal Lascelles wondering what it means.

As the Magpies' takeover saga has played out, Newcastle supporters have been stocking their fridges in the hope that the bid put together by Amanda Staveley, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the Reuben Brothers passes the Premier League's owners' and directors' test.

Lascelles was asked about that when he took part in a live Q&A with #CounterAttackPodcast host Daps on Instagram on Monday evening.

A number of Newcastle fans were watching and repeatedly mentioned cans in the real-time comments - which both Daps and Lascelles could read.

"Right I don't know if this is...in the comments they keep saying cans. I don't know what cans are?" Daps said.

"I have no idea. I keep seeing that and thinking...is there a drink or something in the background?" Lascelles wondered as he looked behind. "Let's ask them: what are cans?"

You just wonder whether Lascelles was teasing fans. At one point, Daps, with a smile, started a question with 'how much information...?' before deciding not to ask it.

However, the host did ask Lascelles about the pressure of being skipper when the fans are 'going crazy in the stands for certain things', such as the club's ownership.

"To be honest, there has been a lot of things said and stuff in the media and trouble with the fans to the owner," Lascelles added.

"There has been a lot of negative stuff going but as players and as captain, our job is to try and ease everyone's problems by putting in performances and getting points on the board.

"We just have to look at it like that. We can't affect anything but what we do when we cross the white line."
