The brilliant Kalvin Phillips stat that shows the impact Leeds United midfielder made on his England debut

Kalvin Phillips became the first Leeds United player to represent England in 16 years last night.

The academy product played 76 minutes in what was a memorable night on a personal level for the 24-year-old.

In truth though, it was a turgid game that saw the Three Lions draw 0-0 away at Denmark in the Nations League.

Phillips will be the first to admit he didn't enjoy a perfect debut. Yes, there were instances of nerves and he struggled to build any rhythm.

His preference, as seen week in, week out at Elland Road, is to drop deep between the centre-backs and dictate from deep. If England adopted a back-four that would have been possible, but Southgate’s decision to use a back-three, and specifically Conor Coady, meant that role was already taken.

Nevertheless, Phillips did make a big impact when it came to breaking up play. And one stat in particular shows this.

Phillips made five tackles on what was his international debut - the same amount as rest of the England side combined!

Mason Mount, who was only on the pitch for the final half-hour, made two tackles whilst there was one each from Conor Coady, Kieran Trippier and Declan Rice.

Phillips can now concentrate on finally aiding Leeds in their first Premier League campaign in 16 years - and if he does then more England caps are surely on their way.
