The brilliant graffiti art that's suddenly turning heads in Llanelli

If you've passed through Llanelli lately the chances are this vibrant street art has caught your eye.

Bright colours and creative designs have popped up throughout the town centre in a bid to "brighten up the town".

Various disused buildings and walls have been plastered with paint in recent weeks with street artists Mons, Plob, and Lat Lim all lending a hand.

The artwork has appeared as part of the local Llanelli Voices project, run by People Speak Up, which aims to bring the community closer together.

Eleanor Shaw, artistic director at People Speak Up, said: "It's an intergenerational project which is a spoken word and visual arts exhibition.

"Over 100 people took part and it brought young and old together to have a voice about their town. It's all about working with local people to brighten up our town and for the people to have a voice and it's had a huge response.

"Everyone had their own input and we were asking people things like 'what is the future of Llanelli?', 'what do you love about Llanelli?' and 'how would you like to see Llanelli?'"

The building in Crown Precinct is just one building that has been given a makeover as part of the project after it was served with a demolition notice at the end of 2017.

The empty building has since become a hotspot for street drinkers with business owners previously complaining about battling with broken glass and litter while opening up.

"We've been doing this since July and hopefully we'll do a lot more," Eleanor added.

"With the Crown Precinct we did that building as it is out of use and it's a forgotten part of Llanelli and it connects the main road in to the town.

"We just want to bring life in to the area and bring some art to it."
