The brilliant Christmas fancy dress pub crawl group who come up with amazing costumes every year

This group of lads go the extra mile for their Christmas drinks every year - and 2019 might juts be their best effort yet.

The group from Rhondda took to the streets of Porth dressed as the Wizard of Oz for their annual Christmas pub crawl, which they called the Wizard of Porth.

Costumes ranged from Dorothy to the tornado itself and even the yellow brick road.

There were even some flying monkeys involved.

The friends meet up for the event every year before Christmas and always choose a different theme.

One of the participants, Matthew Jones, 36, said this year marked another brilliant event.

Matthew, from Trealaw, said: "We do the annual fancy dress pub crawl every year starting in Porth.

"We have a bus ride to Ponty and then finish the night back in Porth.

"It's now the 15th time we have ventured out in fancy dress.

"As most of us are getting older, it's sometimes the only time us friends get to see each other so we all make the effort to attend and come with great costumes."

He explained the committee met up in September to decide the theme, and start planning.

"We take part in some drinking games in teams," he added.

"When we started it was the over 25s and under 25s - now it's the over 40s v under 40s.

"It's become a local tradition."

Matthew added: "Leading up to the day friends and family are eager to find out what the theme is and we receive a lot of cheers and beeps on the day as we make our way around the pubs.

"Once we started putting photos online this year, the likes and comments came flooding.

"One of the comments made us laugh - it said 'NOW Christmas has started'."
