It’s an open fashion secret that Resort collections – the inbetweeny ones – are much nicer than the bi-annual catwalk fodder. For a start, they are more wearable. You may argue that a Stephen Sprouse print pair of pyjamas, a long-line cardigan, flat loafers and a moped helmet is not that realistic. But it is undeniably fabulous and v Coco Chanel. Sofia Coppola consulted on this Parisienne collection and it’s the most inspiring look we’ve seen in ages. Enjoy. Photograph: PR
It’s an unavoidable truth that festival season will throw up some cheeky little novelty trend. In summers past we’ve had coloured Ray-Bans, headdresses and animal costumes. This festival season super fun earrings are gathering momentum. Extra points for fruity ones. Who knew there was a bow tie season? According to the good folk of Brooks Brothers there is, which is why they are touting their new bow tie collection with K Cooper Ray of etiquette website socialprimer.com (check it out if you’re hungry for some gentlemanly advice). While the idea of a playful take on a classic put us off initially, if you’re going to wear something as eccentric and dandy as a bow tie in the first place then you might as well go all out with a jaunty printed and reversible one, right? Exciting times on the red carpet. Well, sort of. Trouser suits are having a moment and are holding their own in the land of the long dress, rather than just being the weird anti-choice of a few fashion rogues. The CFDA awards last week had three of the best we’ve seen. Phoebe Philo wore hers with an exaggerated shirt cuff, Kirsten Dunst wore hers with a topnot and hoops and Leelee Sobieski – a welcome newcomer to this page – wore her Adam Kimmel menswear one in a brave cream and white combination. Next time you have a posh do, consider channelling this look rather than panicking yourself into a dull dress. Photograph: Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images
Round of applause for these espadrilles, please. For not only does the pink look sugary enough to eat but the chunky platform sole is a teensy bit Prada-ish. Plus experience tells us that espadrille sandals are easy to walk in, which makes them long-lasting in spite of the fact that plaited straw isn’t the most enduring of materials.
