Gen V’s season 2 press tour has delivered us a surprise update on The Boys: Mexico. Collider was in the house for the Gen V red carpet this week and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke was in the mood to talk about what’s next for the wild world of Vought International.
Lately there hasn’t been a ton of news to speak of when it comes to The Boys: Mexico. But, sometimes a random Thursday can bring more than you bargained for! Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal are the massive names at the top of the marquee for this project. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is aboard to write the project as well.
It feels like The Boys is just getting started despite the main series’ imminent ending. Along with Kripke are other familiar faces in The Boys universe like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. While there may have been some doubt about the future of The Boys universe past a certain point, the success of Gen V has made Prime Video even more bullish on the future of the franchise.
Kripke was forthcoming about how development is going at this time. It seems like things are progressing pretty smoothly. But they’re not going to rush any of these spinoffs until they’re absolutely ready to leave the hangar. In particular, the presence of two big stars like Luna and Garcia Bernal are huge assets to have in the early going. Lord knows there are some dedicated fans out there already sat and waiting for whatever they release next.
If that success is anything like Gen V, we’re in for a real treat. But, it doesn’t sound like you’re gonna get The Boys: Mexico anytime soon. Which is absolutely fine if that’s the time it takes for this show to be good!
The Boys: Mexico teases a different corner of this world

Two years ago, these multiple spin offs were deep in development. But, after all that work behind the scenes, we’re finally getting to learn more about The Boys universe expanding even farther. Gen V season two was just a little bit away, Vought Rising is not far behind, and The Boys: Mexico will be on its heels before you know it. Here’s what Kripke had to say in that talk with Collider.
“The pilot of The Boys: Mexico is being developed right now. It’s very cool. I mean, who knows – obviously you never know, but I can say that the world itself meets the standard of all of our spin offs,” Kripke told the outlet. “It’s our world but a totally different tone, and it’s super fun. Gael and Diego are executive producers, which is amazing and [they] really engage with it, so – short answer is we’ll see, but I think the script is good.”
Season 5 of The Boys might be here in the blink of an eye. But, Prime Video is in no hurry to see that massive franchise end anytime soon. Having big names like Gail Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna aboard is one thing. Giving them a nice measure of creative control? That’s another. It seems like viewers are in for at least another three to four years of the shows as people are digging the entire Boys universe.
If the beginning of this new corner of The Boys universe is anything like Gen V, then fans will be more than pleased. One thing that was clear from the first chapters of the original show’s run on Prime Video was, this world could be expanded out further than any of us could have imagined. And for Eric Kripke and company that’s great news period. Now, when can we see some footage?
