The Boots recycling tip which will get you £5 free for returning old beauty products

Boots has unveiled a new recycling scheme which will reward you for returning old beauty products to stores.

Advantage Card holders will get 500 points free, worth £5, when they return items such as used lipstick, moisturiser tubs and even toothpaste tubes to selected stores around the UK.

Customers can use the Scan 2 Recycle area of the Boots website to register recyclable items they wish to return to one of 50 participating stores.

For every five items recycled, Advantage Card holders will be granted 500 points on their balance, worth £5, once they've returned them to the stores.

Customers can do this once every day and get £5 worth of points each time they do.

The items are then sent to the Boots recycling partner, ReWorked, who will then reform the used products into new ones to avoid unnecessary general waste.

Boots say they will be able to recycle 'even the most difficult health, beauty and wellness empties, from old mascaras and empty toothpaste tubes to finished lipsticks and empty vitamin pots.'

Items currently not accepted include: Used PPE, electricals such as hair straighteners, razor blades, aerosol cans, perfume bottles, hair dyes and eyebrow tints, food packaging and blister packs for vitamins and medicines.

Joanna Rogers, vice president of Beauty at Boots said: "To help our customers shop and consume more sustainably, we’re excited to launch the most inclusive recycling scheme on the market.

"Customers will be able to recycle even the most difficult health, beauty and wellness empties, from old mascaras and empty toothpaste tubes to finished lipsticks and empty vitamin pots.

"Our customers can then feel even better about treating themselves with their Boots Advantage Card points."
