The boost that could give Tottenham the upper hand ahead of Champions League second leg vs Ajax

Tottenham Hotspur are getting a little help from the Dutch football authorities this time around when it comes to their Champions League semi-final second leg.

Ahead of the first leg against Ajax last week, the Dutch FA postponed all Eredivisie matches the previous weekend in order to give their country's side the best preparation possible to face Spurs.

It was something that didn't go down too well with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino who, while he made it clear he wasn't complaining, admitted that he felt both sides should be going into such a massive game with equal preparation time.

However, when it comes to the second leg, the Dutch fixture calender works in Spurs' favour this time around.

Ajax take on Willem II in the Dutch Cup final in Rotterdam on Sunday night more than a day after Tottenham played Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime.

Ajax have not won the KNVB Cup since 2010, and their manager Erik Ten Hag has said he will not rest key players for the clash with Tottenham.

"I don't see it as a rest. I'm just going to set up a team that can beat Willem II," he said.

"There are no players in the red. We played against Spurs on Tuesday. The time to Sunday is more than enough to recover."

Spurs will be hoping their extra day and a bit of rest might just balance out some of the tiredness they will be feeling in the next couple of days.

What Gary Lineker said about Spurs and the top four race with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United

Pochettino's decision to go strong with his team selection at Bournemouth to try to secure their top four spot was the right move, but circumstances ensured that it backfired and instead many of his key players ended up battling against a side with two extra men for 45 minutes after Son Heung-min and Juan Foyth were sent off in their 1-0 defeat.

Tottenham must now regather themselves physically and mentally for what will be a massive Champions League semi-final second leg clash.
