Leeds United kept hot on the heels of Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion with a 2-1 win over strugglers Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.
After seeing Patrick Bamford's opener almost immediately wiped out by James Collins' header, Leeds struck late on to seal all three points, as defender Matty Pearson's own-goal secured a third successive win for Marcelo Bielsa's troops.
But whilst Leeds and West Brom, who also struck late on, beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1, secured maximum points, there was disappointment for fellow promotion hopefuls Preston North End, as Alex Neil's men suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Derby County.
But whilst there is still an awfully long way to go in this Championship campaign, the table is now starting to take serious shape ahead of the looming, hectic Christmas schedule that is just around the corner.
After 17 games, it is Leeds, who travel to Reading on Tuesday evening, that remain the favourites with the bookies to lift the Championship title come May, with odds of 5/6 currently being offered. Hot on the Whites' heels, though, remain West Brom at 9/4 and Fulham at 10/1.
