The Bolton Wanderers players given an opportunity after 'blow' of Antoni Sarcevic injury

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has admtted it is a 'blow' to be without captain Antoni Sarcevic but that it presents an opportunity for other players in the squad.

The Wanderers skipper was not named in the Bolton matchday squad against Colchester United, though it is not yet currently clear what kind of injury Sarcevic has suffered.

The former Plymouth Argyle midfielder had started all three of Wanderers' matches so far this season.

Ali Crawford came into the side in Sarcevic's place against the U's, while Tom White and Brandon Comley lined up in central midfield.

And despite admitting not having Sarcevic available is a 'blow', Evatt pointed to the likes of Ronan Darcy and Andrew Tutte who were both on the bench and unused substitutes against Colchester as those who could be given a chance with the captain being absent.

Evatt said: “Of course it’s a blow for us because Sarce is a top player for us at this level.

“The lads who played I thought did outstandingly well. Ali Crawford, Tom White and Brandon Comley completely dominated the midfield. They had so many touches of the ball, good possession.

“Yes, we’ll miss Sarce but it gives an opportunity for other people. We have Ronan Darcy on the bench, Andrew Tutte – they're pushing for places.

“Last week I was a bit down because I didn’t think we’d played the way we had trained and the work we've been doing.

“Here, I am actually really pleased. I know we've lost and I hate losing - there's no-one that dislikes losing more than me but to see the way we played and how we've moved the opposition around against a good team.

"We've really given them a really good game and a tough game - we should have won and there's no denying that."
