The body of Craig Morgan's son Jerry Greer has been found, representatives for the country singer have confirmed. The 19-year-old went missing in a boating accident Sunday in Tennessee.
"The Humphreys County (Tenn.) Sheriff's Department recovered his body this evening after a search that began Sunday following a boating accident on Kentucky Lake in Tennessee," read a statement released Monday evening.
Greer had recently graduated from high school in Dickson County, Tenn., and planned to play football for West Virginia's Marshall University in the fall, the statement said.
Jerry Greer, whose mom Karen Greer has been married to the "International Harvester" singer for more than 25 years, was tubing with a friend on a part of the Tennessee River known as Kentucky Lake when they hit a wave and the two went under, WKRN-TV in Nashville reported. The other young man was able to get back on the boat, but Greer didn't resurface. Both were wearing life jackets, the station said.
Rescuers worked overnight looking for the young man after a 4 p.m. emergency call, but the search turned into a recovery effort about 12 hours in, and Greer's body was found around 9 p.m. Monday. The search of about 10 acres involved about 80 people, nearly two dozen boats and a helicopter, WKRN said. An underwater vehicle was also used, according to WSMV-TV.
"The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and requests prayers at this time as they privately mourn this terrible loss," the reps' statement continued.
