The body of a man in his 70s has been discovered in countryside in Stockport

A man's body was discovered in woodland in Stockport.

Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a body discovered not far from Bredbury Hall hotel, on Osborne Street.

Despite the efforts of emergency crews the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the man was aged in his 70s.

Police were called to the incident on Tuesday, April 21.

A statement released by Greater Manchester Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Passers-by described a large police presence in the area on Tuesday evening.

The statement from GMP said: "On Tuesday, April 21, 2020, emergency services attended after the body of a man was discovered on land close to Bredbury Hall, Stockport.

"Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the man, believed to be in his 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file will be passed to the coroner."
