Police and the fire service were called to the park, on the southern outskirts of the West Pennine Moors, just before 9.30am on Sunday to a report that a body had been found in the water.

There was an emergency services presence for a number of hours as parts of the park were closed off and enquiries were carried out. People were also asked to avoid the area temporarily.

A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called just before 9.30am today (13 March) to a report of a body being found in Jumbles Reservoir.

"Emergency services attended and a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
