What will the Bluey Movie be about?
The official line? The film will “continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo” — so, no it thankfully won’t be a coming-of-age shakeup like Riverdale.
Who is involved in the Bluey Movie?
It’s all happening thanks to a collab between Disney, BBC Studios, and our local legends at Ludo Studio.
The movie is written and directed by Joe Brumm — the same bloke who created the TV series back in 2018 and single-handedly raised Australia’s profile among confused Americans wondering why every cartoon dog sounds like they’re about to order an affogato.
Naturally, beloved voices Melanie Zanetti (Chilli) and David McCormack (the iconic Bandit) are back, along with composer Joff Bush, who always has us feeling things with a piano and a cheeky bit of glockenspiel.
Screen Queensland’s even sprinkled in incentives to keep the post-production work local!
When will the Bluey Movie be released?
The release date is locked in for August 6, 2027 — yes, you read that right, TWO years from now. After its theatrical run, the film will be available to stream on Disney+ worldwide and ABC iview and ABC Kids for the OGs.
Why does everyone love Bluey?
In case you missed it, Bluey’s not just popular in Australia — she’s gone international baby! The show has won Emmy and BAFTA awards, and became the Most Watched Disney+ show worldwide in 2024. That’s right, a Brisbane blue heeler outperformed literal Jedi and Avengers. Give that dog a medal and a big ‘ol bowl of kibble!
The movie isn’t only for sticky-fingered toddlers. Parents, aunties, uncles, and childless dog lovers have joined the cult, because nobody’s immune to relatable life lessons delivered by animated dogs.
