The Block fans are still reeling from that shitshow of a finale, and so are the contestants, I’m sure. Especially because apparently there’s gonna be one hell of a wait before they find out how much they scored from the Daylesford houses.
ICYMI: The Block’s trainwreck finale left four contestants in total limbo — Can and Han, who poured their hearts into House 2, and new parents Emma and Ben, the team behind House 1.
And although the series is over, it sounds like they’re a little while off receiving the closure they so deserve ‘cos apparently they have to wait around 140-days to find out if they’ll make any money from the auctions. It could be as late as mid March, according to the Herald Sun.
That’s not to say they’ve walked away with nothing, however. All contestants pocketed around $16,800 for their time on the show — roughly $100 a day over the 12-week slog.
Plus, for any Blockheads lucky enough to actually sell, every dollar over reserve counts as prize money — which means it shouldn’t get slugged by the taxman.
But for others, it’s a pretty grim wait.

The publication cited PropTrack data as showing that the average Daylesford house spends a whopping 139 days waiting for a buyer.
Agents selling the houses have admitted that homes in the area can sometimes take up to nine months to find a buyer.
Even if you start counting from when the prices were first revealed 84 days ago, PropTrack data suggests there’s still another 55 days — almost two months — before a sale might happen.
Assuming The Block’s auctions weren’t just the kickoff for selling the last two homes, fans probably expected big-name buyers to swoop in — like Danny Wallis or Adrian Portelli.
History, though, suggests a long wait. When Dylan and Jenny’s Gisborne home failed to sell in 2022, they ended up waiting from November to February before finally offloading it for $3.9 million — well under the $4.08 million reserve.
The series hasn’t confirmed if the contestants got any money, but technically, being $180k below reserve meant they probably didn’t.

As reported by the publication, agents still trying to sell the contestants’ homes admitted it’s anyone’s guess how long it’ll take to land a buyer at Channel 9’s $3.1 million asking price.
Ray White’s Aaron Hill said Ben and Emma’s place has had plenty of attention since the auction — roughly 30 to 40 calls over the weekend alone.
Meanwhile, Natalie Fagan from Belle Property Daylesford said her agency has been fielding follow-ups from buyers who showed interest during the show, plus new enquiries since the auctions.
“It’s still a big opportunity for someone to snap up a really unique home,” Fagan said.
However, she admitted sales can take a while in a sleepy regional town like Daylesford.
Fagan added that if the Reserve Bank drops interest rates next week, it could spark more demand in regional Victoria — just like previous cuts — and might finally help get those Daylesford homes sold.
But where exactly did it all go wrong? Everyone has had their theories following The Block finale, from Adrian Portelli to winners Britt and Taz to the real estate team involved in the finale, who spilled additional tea on what we didn’t see.
