The Block‘s Robby Lippett and Mat Johnson have spoken out following *that* tumultuous season finale, where the pair walked away with $109k from 2025’s Auction Day.
It’s no secret that this year’s Auction Day has been on the tip of every reality TV fan’s tongue, especially since two houses — House One and House Two — were passed in, with real estate agents now revealing why the finale was such a disaster.
Although Robby and Mat were one of the lucky houses to be sold, with Melbourne’s Danny Wallis buying the build for $3,099,999.10, the besties have admitted they weren’t too happy with the end result of their hard work.

“It’s not a great outcome but… it is what it is,” Mat told 9Entertainment, post-Auction Day.
“It sucks, you know. It’s a lot of hard work that we put in, but it’s a beautiful house and I’m sure Danny and all his guests are going to enjoy it a lot,” Robby added.
You see, the reserve set for Robby and Matt’s home was $2,990,000. While bids did roll in, potential customers began to pull back once it hit the 3 million mark, leading to Wallis taking in the home.
With it being sold, the pair walked away with $109,999.10, which they’ve agreed to split, leaving them each with a modest $54,500.05 each.
Although the pair were grateful for their time on The Block — which was jam-packed with laughter and heated moments — Mat voiced that the prize money they copped didn’t even cover the time being away from his job as a hairdresser.
“It’s not about the money, but it’s about the money. Just to cover my costs for not being in the business or the work that I said no to, it wouldn’t even cover that,” he told the publication.
Robby admitted to 9Entertainment that he was emotional over the outcome, stating, “It does suck not bringing it back for the family”.
“We sacrificed so much, and especially Alyssa as a new mum, she’s the real hero,” Robby added.
“Walking away with my tail between my legs isn’t a good feeling.”

Regardless of the prize money, the pair continue to acknowledge the experience they had on The Block, adding they’ve “met some beautiful best mates for a long time”.
“Money can’t buy the experience we had, mate,” Robby said, with Mat adding, “We did building, drilling, screwing, laughing, crying, we created the worst bedhead on the planet, we set her on fire, we had a funeral, we had a wedding.”
Look, as much as we do froth a messy reality TV show moment, I have to admit that this year’s The Block finale was bloody brutal, and the fall-out is even more heartbreaking.
Hopefully, these teams get a cheeky redemption moment soon.
