The Block stars Emma and Ben Cox have been forced to sell their own home in Victoria, after their renovated house on the reality series failed to sell at last month’s auction.
ICYMI, the young couple were one of three teams on The Block whose houses were passed in during the dramatic finale episode. The Daylesford home had a reserve of $2.99 million, but failed to find a buyer when it fell short by $20,000 after a nail-biting auction.
Now, Emma and Ben have revealed their plans to sell their personal home, listing the property, in the Melbourne suburb of Mornington, with a price guide of $1.7 million to $1.925 million. “We currently have our own home up for sale,” the couple told Mamamia.
“We completed the renovation on this one just before we went on The Block,” they added. The pair went on to reveal their plan to sell “dream home” was dependent on how they fared on the most recent season of the reno show, which aired its finale late last month.
“Our plan was to see how we go on The Block and if we made any money on the show, we would have loved to have stayed living there,” they said.
As for the state of their TV home, well, it’s all “still in limbo”, according to the couple.
“So we thought it was best to sell [the Mornington home] and move on. Sad,” Ben and Emma said.
Despite the sad update, the couple did tease more renovations in their future, and promised to keep fans up to speed with their progress on social media.
It’s the latest development out of a whirlwind 21st season of The Block that was going well right up until that disastrous auction episode. In its wake, there’s been controversy around the contestants’ return to Instagram, rumours of tensions among the cast at a recent event, and revelations of the “crippling debt” some former teams were left in.
All of that without even mentioning the offscreen drama involving billionaire and former The Block bidder Adrian Portelli. Here’s hoping Emma and Ben’s upcoming reno proves more fruitful than their TV one. We’re rooting for them!
